At present Moscow University of Industry and Finance is one of the largest Russian higher education institutions founded on the principles of the classical Russian entrepreneurial learning that were established as early as the beginning of the XIX century. At that time in 1810 the Commercial Knowledge Society was founded in compliance with an edict issued by Emperor Alexandre I to patronize educational institutions that trained entrepreneurs, supervisories, financial experts and merchants.

It was decided to revive the Society and to establish a new educational institution that would promote the traditions of the Russian classical practice-oriented entrepreneurial education. Thus, Moscow University of Industry and Finance was founded.
In 1995 the University was licensed by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation and at the beginning of 1999 it obtained its first state accreditation. The Accreditation Board of the Federal Education and Science Supervision Agency of the Russian Federation gave the MUIF an University status after 10 years of its successful work.
In 2008 the MUIF writing staff was awarded a prize of the Government of the Russian Federation in the field of education, and Rubin Yury Borisovich, the University Rector, was elected associate member of the Russian University of Sciences.
